The Castle Rock Broadcast Center is the cornerstone of DirecTV’s business. First of its many facilities across the US, and originally constructed in 1993, the CRBC has had several expansions and remodels over the years. And, the principals of Archcentric have been there from the beginning.
With the advent of delivering local channels to major metropolitan markets, DirecTV built this NOC and expanded their equipment room capacity to support and backup the Regional Uplink Facilities (RUFs) throughout the US.
The conference room is strategically located adjacent to the NOC and separated by low-reflective glass to function as a situation room when needed. The NOC is a 270-degree room with large monitor walls on three sides of the room - all visible from the adjacent conference room.
The architecture artfully combines the use of natural materials (cleaved sandstone and stained woods) in the conference room with high-tech materials (stainless steel, metal ceiling panels, and decorative track lighting) in the NOC to create a truly unique environment.
The main equipment room (MER) utilizes under-floor air distribution and overhead cable management. Cable trays are supported on an interstitial floor suspended over the equipment racks. A pre-action sprinkler system, gas agent suppression system, and early smoke detection system provide DirecTV with the appropriate tools needed to manage this impressive and complex facility in such a remote environment.
